The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reiterated that he is not driven by a personal ambition to become Nigeria’s president, but rather by a deep desire to see the country function effectively.

Obi made the statement on Saturday during a special Anniversary Sabbath service held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Umuahia to commemorate the second year in office of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

He acknowledged the difficulties of governance in Nigeria, especially for leaders who strive to do the right thing, and urged the people of Abia to offer prayers for Governor Otti and his commissioners.

“When I say to people I am not desperate to be a President, I am desperate to see Nigeria work.
We are just trustees, like it is happening in Abia, we want it to happen everywhere in Nigeria,” Obi said.

He encouraged Nigerians to also pray for all leaders across the country, urging them not to squander public funds but to use resources responsibly for the common good.

The former Anambra State governor praised Governor Otti for his performance over the past two years, commending the notable progress in governance under his leadership.
“We have come to celebrate two years with a difference. People have always said that they need eight years, they need ten years, they need twenty years. But, I have always said that one day can make a difference,” he added.

In his remarks at the event, Governor Alex Otti attributed the progress of his administration to divine guidance and strength, expressing gratitude for the support he has received.

He thanked Obi for his continued encouragement and expressed appreciation to the legislature, judiciary, and members of the Church for their persistent prayers and solidarity with his government.
