Fegho John Umunubo has reacted with optimism following his sudden removal as Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Digital and Creative Economy, in the Office of the Vice President.

While the announcement from the presidency signaled an abrupt end to his role, Umunubo chose to frame the moment as a new beginning.

His disengagement was confirmed on Monday in an official statement by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House.

The statement, which offered no reasons for the decision, emphasized that Umunubo was no longer authorized to act on behalf of the administration.

“Stakeholders and constituents of the digital and creative economy, at home and abroad, as well as the general public are hereby notified that FEGHO JOHN UMUNUBO, who hitherto had served as the Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy (Office of the Vice President), has been disengaged with immediate effect,” the release stated.

Despite the sudden nature of the announcement, Umunubo responded in a composed tone. Taking to Instagram shortly after the news broke, he posted a screenshot of the release with a message that hinted at personal liberation and forward momentum: “It has been my honor to serve this country and the Creative Industry. Now I am free to fly.”

The announcement came just days after Umunubo had publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to Vice President Kashim Shettima and President Tinubu, urging citizens to support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Nonetheless, with his departure now official, Umunubo appears ready to chart a new course beyond government service.
