Veteran actor, Kunle Bamtefa, known for playing the role of Chief Fuji in ‘Fuji House of Commotion’ and Uncle Pablo in ‘The Johnsons’ family sitcoms, says he’s back and raring to get back on set.
The actor, who has not been on set for a while after being caught in the lockdown imposed by the United Kingdom due to the COVID-19 pandemic, also revealed he stayed off social media because of people using it negatively.
Bamtefa said,
“I have been working at least for the last six to eight years. I have been on the set of The Johnsons.
“The season starts in April and ends in February and its everyday work― 260 episodes. It was only when I went to see my family in the United Kingdom and the lockdown ‘caught’ me there and I had to be there for 6 months that I did not work.
“I am back now and getting ready to return to work.”
Bamtefa described social media as crazy, adding that though he is on at least four platforms he doesn’t post anything.
He said,
“Social media can be crazy. It is very anonymous. Some people say they ‘follow’ you and when they post something and you reply, they use that opportunity to insult you.
“There are a lot of insults on social media. Yet, when those people see you, they cannot even talk to you.
“They would rather prostrate themselves on the floor for you.
“However, social media also has its good sides. Some people use it positively but many use it negatively, posting all sorts of things. That is why I stay away from social media.
“I am on Facebook, Instagram, and some other platforms where my friends, church society, and social club (Ikoyi Club) are. I read what people post. But, if anyone is becoming too crazy, I remove myself from the place. I scarcely post things. If I don’t have anything to say, I wouldn’t post.
“Some people just post for the sake of it but I don’t do that. I have friends who forward anything they like and I tell them what they posted is not true.
“They would say they just posted it but I tell them they need to verify whatever information they have before sharing it because there are a lot of fake news all over the place.
“Homes and societies have been destroyed with that. It’s just that one cannot pray for the old days that one did not have a personal phone, only ‘landlines’.”
