The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has condemned the brutal killing of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, by her boyfriend, Abdulrahman Bello.

Lawal, who met Bello on social media, was allegedly killed and dismembered for ritual purposes.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir described the act as “unfortunate, alien, and regrettable.”

“It has become important for parents, guardians, and community members to stay vigilant and ensure that their children and wards associate with people of tested and trusted character,” he said.

He emphasized that only hard work leads to success and warned against laziness and idleness among youths.

“The society must declare total war against idleness, laziness, and unnecessary loitering in the name of finding means of survival,” he added.

The Emir also called on religious leaders to expose fake clerics like Bello before they harm more innocent people.

While consoling Lawal’s family, he urged the police and judiciary to ensure justice is served.

He further directed Imams in Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State to focus their Friday sermons on morality, dignity in labor, and respect for human life, regardless of tribe or religion.
