The son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Bashir El-Rufai, has come under intense criticism following a violent threat he issued to a user on platform X (formerly Twitter).

The threat was in response to an offensive comment directed at his mother, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai.

The exchange began after Mrs El-Rufai commented on a post regarding United States President Donald Trump’s travel ban on four African nations, including Nigeria.

In her tweet, she wrote, “A great percentage of these Nigerian Americans making us proud abroad are Igbos. There’s always two sides to every story.”

Her remarks triggered mixed reactions, prompting her to defend her right to express an opinion.

In a follow-up post, she stated, “No cyberbully can take away my right to express my opinion. Not everything is about politics, but that is something some of you will never understand.”

One X user, identified as @jussstice09, replied with the comment: “You no go die well ma.”

In reaction, Bashir El-Rufai responded with a tweet that has since been deleted, stating, “If you ever utter that phrase to my mother again & delete that tweet, I am going to find you (it’s easier than you think) & unalive you and your family.”

Despite widespread backlash and media inquiries, Mr El-Rufai has not issued a public statement or response.

This incident adds to a pattern of controversial behaviour by the former governor’s son on social media.

In March, he tweeted that more bloodshed would occur in Southern Kaduna if attacks on Fulani communities continued.

The post was later removed, and he apologised following public condemnation.

He also previously made dismissive remarks about the disappearance of Abubakar ‘Dadiyatta’ Idris, a known critic of his father, suggesting that it was a fitting outcome for spreading falsehoods.

In the same breath, he mocked those campaigning for justice, calling them “clowns.”
