Iheanacho’s solitary goal shoots Leicester to first FA Cup final in 52 years

Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, continues his fine form in England after his lone goal booked Leicester a place in its first FA Cup final appearance in 52 years.

With the win, Leicester would likely have their hands full when they face a rampaging Chelsea team at the final in May.

Although the clash did not live up to expectation, Leicester ground out the needed result to scale through the semis after outshining Southampton 1-0.

Eurosport reported that the Nigerian registered his 10th goal in his last seven games in all competitions to break the deadlock 10 minutes after the break.

The first half was poor as neither side created any serious threat, .

Iheanacho’s goal was, however, the first goal the Saints have conceded in the FA Cup this season.

Coming off the bench, the foxes’ enigmatic mifielder, James Maddison, went close to scoring twice with the Saints offering little resistance.

As it turned out, Kasper Schmeichel seemed to be on holiday as he remained largely untroubled all through the match.

No fewer than 4,000 fans turned up at the stadium for the first time this year.

Striker Jamie Vardy, looking for his first goal since mid-February, had the best chance of a poor first half, looping an effort just over.

The Saints also failed to capitalise on the foxes recent poor run as it could only pout a single shot at goal in the opening 45 minutes of a match for the first time since November 2019.

However, versatile Vardy made up for his lack of precision in front of goal by giving the pass that sent the stadium into a rapturous jubilation. The petite forward raced down the left, before picking out his strike partner.

His pass found Iheanacho, whose first effort was poor, but he got another opportunity to redeem his image after the ball rebounded into his path.

The young Nigerian has scored in every round of this season’s FA Cup competition.

A fine rich form that has so far proven to be enough to get Leicester to its desired destination.

Prior to this time, Iheanacho has struggled to hit form.

In fact, he went 12 months between September 2018 and September 2019 without scoring a single goal.

He remains the first and only Nigerian player to have scored 15 goals in all competitions in a season for a Premier League club since Odion Ighalo.

In the 2015-16 season, Ighalo scored 17 goals for Watford.
