Kelechi Iheanacho has shared his excitement after scoring a late decisive penalty that earned Celtic F.C. a dramatic 3-2 victory over Motherwell F.C. in Wednesday’s Scottish Premiership encounter at Fir Park.

The Nigerian international began the match among the substitutes but made a crucial impact after coming on, converting a stoppage-time penalty to hand Celtic all three points in an intense contest.

Iheanacho calmly sent goalkeeper Calum Ward the wrong way, triggering jubilant celebrations from the visiting supporters.

The result significantly boosts Celtic’s hopes of retaining the Scottish Premiership crown as they prepare for a decisive final league fixture against Heart of Midlothian F.C..

Reacting after the encounter, Iheanacho admitted he was overwhelmed by the moment following his match-winning contribution.

“To be fair, I don’t have words, I don’t know how, but we’ve done it,” Iheanacho told Sky Sports via BBC.

“As you can see, the fans are still shouting, and we’re happy, and we have one more to go. We need to get back now and focus on that.”

Speaking on the pressure surrounding the decisive spot-kick, the striker said: “I just kept cool, and it’s scary, but thankfully we got the victory, so we’re happy.”

Iheanacho, who arrived at Celtic F.C. as a free agent, has faced an injury-disrupted season since joining the club. Despite those challenges, the former Leicester City F.C. forward has continued to play an important role under manager Martin O’Neill, recording eight goals and one assist in 22 appearances across all competitions this campaign.
