The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is set to decorate a group of distinguished officers today, Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The officers were recently granted accelerated promotion by the Police Service Commission in recognition of their exceptional service.

According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the promotions reflect the IGP’s continued drive to reform the Nigeria Police Force.

The initiative emphasizes motivation, merit-based advancement, and the cultivation of professionalism across the ranks.

“This move is not just about conferring new ranks,” the statement read. “It is a national salute to officers whose conduct, courage, and character exemplify true service to the nation.”

Among those to be officially decorated are CSP Shaba Aliyu, who was named Police Officer of the Year 2023 and has now been elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and SP Sentome Obi, the Police Officer of the Year 2024, who has been promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). The promotions are effective from December 31, 2023, and December 31, 2024, respectively.

The statement also reiterated a policy announced in July 2025, in which the Force committed to granting accelerated promotion to officers who had won awards in consecutive years or received multiple commendations from the IGP. The measure is part of efforts to institutionalize the recognition of integrity and professionalism.

“Institutional reform starts with rewarding excellence,” the Force PRO emphasized. “These officers went above and beyond their call of duty. They chose integrity over compromise, and for that, they are being honoured.”

Underscoring the significance of the occasion, the Inspector-General has arranged for special transportation, including the use of the police jet, to bring the honourees to Abuja. Their images have also been prominently displayed at the entrance of the Force Headquarters, with similar displays instructed at all Zonal and State Commands nationwide.

“This is how trust is built – from within,” Adejobi stated. “We are creating a culture where excellence is not the exception, but the standard.”

The police spokesperson concluded by encouraging officers throughout the country to remain committed to ethical service, assuring them that their dedication would not go unnoticed.

“To all our officers across the federation, this is a strong reminder: the job is not thankless,” he said. “Your efforts are seen. Your excellence will be celebrated.”
