IGP orders crackdown on attackers of Borno police station

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered immediate action against those responsible for the attack on the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State.

The attack, carried out by Boko Haram terrorists in the early hours of Thursday, resulted in the death of two police officers and left another critically injured.

The officers who lost their lives were identified as Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.

The incident, which happened around 12:10 AM, saw the terrorists exchange gunfire with officers at the station. They were eventually repelled with the help of the Civilian Joint Task Force stationed nearby.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP condemned the attack and vowed to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“Any cop-killers will not go unpunished,” the statement read.

The IGP expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased officers and assured them that their entitlements and benefits would be processed without delay.

The IGP has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 15, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to mobilize resources and work with other security agencies to track down the attackers.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding the country and ensuring that anyone who disrupts security will face the full force of the law.

During an assessment of the attack scene, led by the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, grenades were recovered, indicating the severity of the attack.

The IGP emphasized that the sacrifices of officers who died in the line of duty would not be forgotten, reiterating the police’s determination to maintain law and order across the country.
