The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday visited Plateau State after weeks of deadly attacks in the state that have claimed over 100 lives.

The attacks happened in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas, where armed men stormed communities and killed many innocent people.

During his visit, the IGP met with Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Government House. He expressed sadness over the killings and assured the people that those behind the attacks would be arrested and punished.

“We will not allow these killings to continue. The perpetrators will be brought to book. The police are fully committed to restoring peace in Plateau State,” Egbetokun said.

The IGP was accompanied by top police officers, including assistant inspectors general. He also met with tactical commanders to discuss ways to strengthen security in the troubled areas.

A statement from police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said, “The Inspector-General of Police also held a brief meeting with tactical commanders to review strategies employed in the deployment of police personnel and equipment.”

To further boost the efforts, the IGP directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of operations, Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to take full charge of operations to restore calm in the state.

Governor Mutfwang, who had earlier apologized to affected communities, welcomed the visit and said more help was needed to protect lives and stop future attacks.

Residents are hoping the fresh efforts will finally bring peace to the region after years of unrest.
