The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has issued orders for the distribution of an additional 220 operational vehicles to enhance security preparations ahead of the Gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States approach, scheduled for November 11, 2023.
According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, these vehicles are part of the operational and logistics support to facilitate smooth election processes in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states.
The distributed vehicles include “water canons, Armored Personnel Carriers, helmets, bullet proof vests, tear gas canisters, etc, to the 3 affected states to intensify security arrangements for the elections”
“Earlier, the IGP had organised trainings for the police officers who are involved in the election security management for the forthcoming elections and sought the approval of the Federal Government for the payment of their allowances and other necessary support to boost the morale of the officers during the operations,” Adejobi said.
The IGP urged all stakeholders in the three states to prioritize peace, uphold the rule of law, and act lawfully throughout the pre-election, Election Day, and post-election periods.
The Police and other security agencies have been put on high alert to prevent any disorderly actions that could disrupt the elections in any of the states.
