The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has promised to meet with retired police officers who are protesting over poor retirement benefits in Abuja.
The Nigeria Police Force shared this on Monday through its official X page, saying the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, has already engaged with the protesters.
The statement said, “Arrangements have been made for the IGP to meet with them at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.”
The protest, which held in the Federal Capital Territory, was led by the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, and other activists.
The retirees are asking for better welfare for both retired and serving police personnel.
The police, however, claimed that some people with hidden motives tried to hijack the protest.
