The Nigerian Army has warned residents in the South East to disregard a fresh “sit-at-home” order allegedly issued by terrorists.

In a statement on Wednesday, Lt. Col Olabisi Ayeni, Deputy Director of Public Relations at 82 Division, said the threat is false and aimed at creating fear and disrupting economic activities.

“The attention of 82 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to a recent threat message on a fake ‘sit-at-home’ order being circulated online by some criminal elements threatening a lockdown today, Thursday, 20 November 2025,” the statement read.

Ayeni assured citizens, “We guarantee that Freedom of Movement is Protected and residents are free to conduct their lawful activities without fear or hindrance. There will be peaceful coexistence and economic activities will thrive in the region.”

The army also urged the public to remain calm and vigilant. “We urge the public to disregard messages of fear and coercion spread by groups whose only aim is to create panic and hinder progress in the region for their selfish interest. Citizens are therefore encouraged to go about their lawful duties and businesses without fear,” the statement added.

Security forces, in coordination with the police and other agencies, have deployed measures to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure. The army warned that anyone attempting to enforce illegal orders will face the full weight of the law.

Lt. Col Ayeni concluded, “Together, we will ensure that no threat succeeds in disrupting the peace and unity of our country. If you see something, please say something.”
