Aloy Ejimakor, a legal consultant to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has said that many Igbo people are dissatisfied with the conviction of the Biafra agitator.

Ejimakor cautioned that failure to urgently reverse or address Kanu’s life sentence could influence political decisions by Igbos during the 2027 general elections.

Sharing his views on X, Ejimakor wrote: “I travelled around entire Southeast during this Xmas/New Year period & noticed that Ndigbo are very unhappy about the conviction of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu & that if it’s not rectified urgently, they will surely make their feelings known in the 2027 elections. Even Google confirms it.”

In 2025, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on terrorism-related charges.

The trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, while delivering the judgment, stated that Kanu deserved the death penalty by hanging but chose to exercise leniency in imposing a life sentence instead.
Kanu has been standing trial for nearly a decade over various allegations, including treason and terrorism, arising from his campaign for the actualisation of an independent Biafra.
