As Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, is set to appear before a Beninese court on Monday, July 26, Yoruba monarchs in Benin Republic have met on Sunday.

According to The PUNCH, the monarchs, including the Alajashe of Ajase from Port Novo, Onikoyi Abesan, and Oba of Seme, amongst others, met in the Palace of Alajohoun of Adjohoun, which is about 60 kilometres away from Ajase.

WuzupNigeria reported that the embattled activist who is under detention is expected to appear before the Beninese court for immigration-related charges Monday, July 26.

He was arrested, alongside his wife, Ropo, who has since been released by the Beninese authorities, following their arrets on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Republic of Benin on their way to Germany.

Igboho’s counsels failed to convince the prosecutor that he had no case to answer, just as the court awaits the submission of charges by the Nigerian Government.

The lawyers had said that during the hearing, prosecutors claimed Igboho was on a watchlist for alleged trafficking in arms, inciting violence that could result in social disturbance and causing disunity in Nigeria.

However, Yoruba leaders, including monarchs, are reportedly rallying support for the Yoruba rights activist.
