The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has announced the recovery of ₦13 billion in diverted public funds during September 2024.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the recovery was disclosed by ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, during the launch of the commission’s Strategic Action Plan for 2024-2028 in Abuja on Wednesday.
Dr. Aliyu described the recovery as significant, highlighting the commission’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and promote accountability in Nigeria.
“This impressive haul is a testament to the ICPC’s relentless efforts at combating corruption and ensuring accountability in Nigeria,” he said.
He also announced the development of a specialized curriculum aimed at enhancing the enforcement capabilities of ICPC personnel.
“This initiative equips our officers with the skills and expertise needed to address the complexities of corruption cases with the highest standards of professionalism and efficiency,” Aliyu noted.
Additionally, the ICPC Chairman emphasized the importance of decentralizing anti-corruption efforts by empowering state governments.
“We are decentralising the anti-corruption efforts by empowering state governments through the mobilisation of state attorneys-general.
This approach ensures that state governments are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to effectively combat corruption at the local level,” he explained.
