AC Milan striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic could make a comeback to international football ahead of Sweden’s bid to challenge for the Euro 2020.

The 39-year-old retired from international football after The Blue and Yellow bowed out of the Euro 2016 competition by finishing bottom of their group.

The former Manchester United striker revealed he was interested in playing for the Swedes at the 2018 World Cup but he was snubbed by coach Janne Andersson whose team’s journey ending in the quarter-finals.

Reports suggest that Ibrahimovic’s return has been under discussion for several months, according to reports, but has not been confirmed by the Swedish football federation (SvFF).

“It is certain that the Milan star is making a comeback in Janne Andersson’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers,” said the site Footbolldirekt, in a report that was picked up by the Swedish national press.

Last autumn, he said he “missed” wearing the yellow jersey. The SvFF said that the player then had a “good and fruitful” meeting with Andersson.

“The dialogue with Zlatan continues,” SvFF spokesman, Jakob Kakembo Andersson, told AFP on Saturday, adding that the players selected for the next matches, a pair of World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Kosovo and a friendly against Estonia, will be announced on March 16.

Ibrahimovic is enjoying a return to Milan having netted 14 goals in 14 Serie A matches for AC Milan this season who recently conceded the top spot of the Serie A to rivals, Inter.

He scored 62 goals in 116 caps before retiring from the national squad in 2016 and will be hoping to add to his records when Sweden face Spain, Poland and Slovakia in their group in the first round of the Euro 2020 which has been postponed to June and July 2021 because of Covid-19.
