Former governor of Delta State, James Ibori who arrived Nigeria on Saturday after serving four and a half years in UK jail is on his way to his home town Oghara.
He had been expected to fly to Oghara in Delta State where a rousing reception had been prepared for him.
But it was gathered arrived at the Benin airport at about 2:30pm in a chartered private jet marked “5N-IZY\”.
The former governor was said to have been sighted in a black jacket and black pair of jeans trousers.
It was learnt that he immediately proceeded to the VIP lounge where spent about 10 minutes before leaving for Oghara, in a black Toyota Prado jeep.
It was learnt that he was accompanied by some security operatives in a convoy of vehicles.
Earlier, it had been reported that operatives of the Department of State Services picked up the deported former Governor when he arrived in Abuja on Saturday morning.
Friends, family and associates of Ibori, who were expecting him in the country next Wednesday, were said to have been astonished when they learnt that the ex-convict had arrived in the country unheralded.
They were said to have been planning to give him a hero’s welcome devoid of his status as an ex-convict.
It was gathered that the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Lawan Daura, instructed that Ibori be brought to his office at Aso Drive, Abuja, for questioning.
The former governor was said to have been interrogated on his sojourn in the United Kingdom where he was recently released from prison.
He was also said to have been asked about his plan in the country.
