Ibadan explosion: Oyo monarchs back govt against illegal mining

Traditional rulers in Oyo State pledged their collaboration with the state government in combating illegal mining in a closed-door meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde. 

The meeting included prominent figures such as the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye, Olubadan of Ibadan represented by Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola, Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Olabisi, Onpetu of Ipetu, Oba Sunday Oyediran, Olu of Igboora, Oba Jimoh Titiloye, Akibio of Ilora, Oba Steven Oyeniyi, among others.

Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis, addressed the media after the meeting, stating, “All traditional rulers across the five geopolitical zones of Oyo State have resolved to provide more support for the government in terms of communication and sharing of intelligence to curb the issue of illegal mining.” 

The rulers highlighted the three tracks discussed during the meeting, focusing on security lapses, medical and humanitarian challenges, with Governor Makinde assuring them of adequate measures to address these concerns.
