Ibadan explosion affected Oyo govt secretariat

The aftermath of the explosion in the Adeyi area of Bodija, Ibadan, on the night of Tuesday, January 17, extended to the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Agodi. 

According to a report on The Nation, the Governor’s office, including the private office and hallways, suffered shattered glass windows due to the force of the explosion. 

The Governor’s Press Crew office and several ministries, including Information and Orientation, Youths and Sports, Environment, and Natural Resources, experienced destruction, with numerous glass windows and doors shattered.

The report further stated that the Oyo State Civil Service Commission and the Management Information Centre at the entrance of the Governor’s Office saw damage to parts of the roofs, along with shattered glass windows, doors, and louvres. 

The Water Cooperation Building, the State Secretariat Central Mosque, the Secretariat Chapel, the Revenue House, the newly built Local Government Service House, and the Local Government Staff Training School were also significantly affected.

Glass windows were shattered, ceilings forced down, doors damaged, and computer systems affected in various offices. Some staff members, unable to use their offices due to the explosion’s damage, were seen in groups discussing the incident. 

An anonymous Revenue House office staff member described the incident as drastic, expressing hope that the state government would promptly address the damages. As of the latest report, staff members were observed clearing the aftermath as they resumed duty on Wednesday morning.
