Nigerian singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, better known as Terry G, has accused American music magazine Billboard of cheating him after his songs were missing from its new list of the Top 50 Best Afrobeats Songs of All Time.
The list, released this week, was topped by 2Face Idibia’s African Queen. Other Nigerian hits like Timaya’s Dem Mama, Weird MC’s Ijoya, and Olu Maintain’s Yahooze were also included.
But Terry G’s well-known street anthems such as Akpako Master, Free Madness, and Run Mad were not featured, a decision the singer strongly rejected.
Reacting to the ranking through a post shared by Chart Data, the singer simply wrote, “TERRY G robbed.”
His comment quickly set off a wave of mixed reactions online. Some agreed with him, while others argued that Billboard’s choices were fair.
For his supporters, Terry G helped shape the Nigerian street-hop sound that influenced many younger artistes, and his exclusion felt like a snub.
MrFEM0 commented, “I feel they looked into the lyrics much more too. Remember say you been dey test microphone sha.”
Carter\_jayon wrote, “Free Madness was a hit back to back, to Akpako Master but not to be compared. African Queen was and still is a beautiful song like fine wine.”
Another fan, Greatfuljoseph, added, “Don’t worry we go put you when we select top 50… Mad Over You by Runtown should be on that list.”
VikToh1805 was surprised by the omission. “I shock as them no include your ‘FREE MADNESS’ song ooo… E come be like you be foreigner. Them no even include some OG artist songs self.”
Others, however, felt Terry G was exaggerating. Efebest38 wrote, “OGA nobody robbed you! Those days na African Queen dey first enter everybody mind based on the message.”
Singerpour also weighed in: “Who dey gas you self? We love and recognize your impact in the game sha, but no overdo. This one pass you.”
Another user, FelaAdejumo, cautioned him, saying, “You better no lose the respect wey boys get for you. You’re an OG and you should know better.”
