Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has addressed concerns over his recent weight loss, attributing it to difficulties finding suitable food while traveling abroad.
The conversation was sparked after the artist posted a photo of himself on X, dressed in a British-inspired outfit — a turtleneck, shirt, and skirt — and sporting loose dreadlocks.
Fans quickly noticed his leaner appearance, with one alarmed follower asking if he was “losing his life.”
In response, Blaqbonez explained that his struggles with eating while abroad stem from his preference for Nigerian food, which has affected his ability to maintain his usual weight.
“My problem is I only like Nigerian food, so whenever I leave the country I struggle to eat, I been on the road for almost 2 months, barely eating, cos I want to give u guys the best album experience ever, I’d add some weight soon. No Excuses,” he wrote.
He reassured fans that the change in his appearance was not linked to any health issues and promised to regain weight soon.
Blaqbonez gained widespread attention with his 2021 debut album Sex Over Love, and further established himself as a leading figure in Nigerian rap with his 2023 project Emeka Must Shine. That same year, he was named among Rolling Stone’s “50 Innovators Shaping Rap’s Future.”
Despite his success, the rapper has often spoken about the emotional pressures of fame, sharing how public scrutiny affects his personal life.
