Controversial Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has claimed that he paid N5 million to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in an effort to secure a Federal Government pardon for money laundering charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
In a newly released voice note, shared by social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky revealed that the SAN initially demanded N10 million but he could only raise half of the amount because his account had been frozen by the EFCC.
According to the voice note, which was reportedly recorded on May 16, 2024, Bobrisky said his godfather came to his aid, providing the N5 million.
“My godfather was able to say, ‘Never, you will not smell that prison,’” Bobrisky said in the voice note, confirming that he was not in prison as widely speculated. “Truth be told, I won’t lie to you, you’re my person. I’m not in prison, but I’m around there. They got me an apartment because of my godfather. Let the world think that, but you will never.”
Bobrisky explained that his godfather had arranged for him to stay in a well-furnished apartment close to the prison. He added that the Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service allowed this arrangement, as long as Bobrisky refrained from posting on social media.
“The SAN asked for N10 million, which I could have transferred, but my account is frozen. My godfather gave me N5 million, and we sent it to the SAN two weeks ago. He has already submitted the pardon request,” Bobrisky said, indicating efforts were being made to secure his release.
Bobrisky further explained that due to concerns about placing him in a male facility, where he could face harassment, the correctional service made special arrangements for him to stay near the prison. “They were worried about putting me in a male facility, so they arranged for me to stay nearby, as long as I don’t post or say anything,” he added.
This latest revelation follows an earlier claim by Bobrisky that EFCC operatives allegedly demanded and received N15 million to drop the charges against him. He also claimed that his godfather, along with the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his sentence in a private apartment rather than in prison.
Bobrisky also alleged that human rights lawyer Femi Falana sought a presidential pardon for him in exchange for ₦10 million.
