Renowned Nigerian music video director, Clarence Peters, has revealed that he found peace with his father, veteran musician Shina Peters, only after realising he had made the same life mistakes.

Speaking during a podcast interview, the 41-year-old filmmaker said the turning point came in 2014 or 2015 when he began to see parallels between his own decisions and the missteps he once resented in his father.

That moment, he explained, allowed him to let go of years of bitterness—even before they had any conversation about it.

“I made every single mistake my father made,” he said.

“I was just fortunate that time and technology prevented mine from being as disastrous as his. Once I realised that, I forgave him immediately, even before we talked. That was the start of my adulthood, and I’m still on that journey because adulthood never really ends.”

Peters, who is the son of Nollywood veteran Clarion Chukwura, acknowledged that he never directly confronted his father about those past issues. Instead, he chose internal reconciliation, brought on by self-awareness and the personal responsibility that came with maturity.

He admitted he has made conscious efforts to avoid copying his father’s approach to relationships, particularly with women, although he conceded that he is far from perfect.

Clarence’s comments offer a rare glimpse into his private reflections and the personal growth that helped shape his perspective on family, forgiveness, and responsibility.
