A 57-year-old man identified as Emmanuel has appeared before an Abakaliki Court, Ebonyi State for impregnating his 17-year-old sister-in-law living in his family house.
Emmanuel’s wife who gave the sister’s name as Ijeoma Nwaokpuru, told the court that the matter became exposed when she didn’t see her sister, only to later discover that her husband had gone to rent a place for her somewhere else after impregnating her.
Nwaopkuru told the court that her sister’s husband lured her and promised to sponsor her university education.
She said,
“When he told me that we should do the thing, I didn’t agree but later on he promised me that he will take care of me and sponsor my university education before I finally agreed. ”
The accused while speaking with newsmen at the court blamed his action on the devil, saying,
”I love my wife but I don’t know what happened to me, I think it is devil’s handwork because am not a bad person. My wife should please forgive me because as it stands now, I don’t have money to take care of both of them.”
The court adjourned the case to March 23.
