Former Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has blamed the club’s lack of faith in his work as the reason for his departure from the Spanish giant.
WUZUPNIGERIA reported that the Frenchman left the club four days ago with one year left on his contract which is expected to expire in 2022 after ending the season trophyless and getting eliminated from the Champions League elimination by Chelsea in the semi-finals.
In an open letter on Monday, Zidane accused the club’s hierarchy, led by Florentino Perez, of not offering support he needed to build something in the medium or long term, according to AFP.
“I’m leaving because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me I need, and doesn’t offer me the support to build something in the medium or long term,” the Frenchman wrote in the letter published in the sports daily AS.
“I am a born winner and I was here to win trophies, but beyond this there are human beings, emotions, life and I have the feeling that these things have not been valued, that it has not been understood that this is also how the dynamic of a great club is maintained,” he said.
“But everything I built on a daily basis, what I brought to the relationship with the players… has been forgotten.”
“I’m leaving, but I’m not jumping ship and I’m not tired of coaching,” he said.
The Frenchman won three Champions League titles and the 2016-17 Spanish League in his first stint at the club from January 2016 to May 2018.
He returned in March 2019, replacing Santiago Solari, and won his second La Liga title in the COVID-affected 2019-20 Season.
