President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said he draws valuable lessons from media criticism, despite enduring persistent personal attacks.
He made the remarks during a town hall meeting with political leaders in Benue State on Wednesday.
“No matter what I do, they will insult me. I read the papers and I learn from their criticism because I can’t see it all,” Tinubu said.
The President is currently visiting Benue State in the aftermath of a deadly attack in Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area, where over 100 people were reportedly killed by suspected armed herders.
Tinubu’s comments were part of a broader discussion on governance, unity, and the need for long-term peace efforts in the region.
Addressing Governor Hyacinth Alia directly, he stated, “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed. Are you just realising that?”
He emphasized the need for political cooperation and encouraged leaders in the region to form a collective front in the pursuit of peace.
“We cannot do without one another,” Tinubu said. “I want us to create a leadership committee now to meet in Abuja to fashion out a strategy for lasting peace. And I am ready to invest in that peace.”
The President was received in Makurdi by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Governor Alia.
His visit comes amid mounting pressure for stronger federal action following a wave of violent attacks in communities across the state.
