Nollywood actress and evangelist Tonto Dikeh has disclosed that she was once involved in a cult, stating that she worked for a demon during a difficult period in her life.
The actress made the revelation while ministering in Tanzania, where she spoke about her past and personal transformation.
According to her, she got involved in the dark path while trying to navigate what she described as a “wicked world.” “I joined a cult, I worked for the demon so hard, and I know who he is,” she said. She explained that those experiences exposed her to unhealthy influences and choices she now deeply regrets. “In the midst of trying to navigate life… I’ve dipped my hands in so many filth and dirt,” she confessed.
Dikeh noted that she has overcome that phase, adding that the demon no longer has any hold on her. She described reaching a turning point when she experienced a divine call back to faith. “Today God said… I’ll take you back and clean you up. I’ll put you on altars to preach my gospel,” she shared. She emphasised that her story is a testament to her spiritual journey and freedom from her past, declaring that evil no longer has power over her life.
Her words drew emotional reactions from worshippers, many of whom applauded her openness and message of redemption. However, the testimony also sparked conversations on social media, with some questioning her transparency. One user wrote, “If truly you have given your life to Christ you would expose other members and what your mission was when you were with them. Don’t just be giving us half stories!! Transparency is one of the biggest qualities of a true believer.” Others praised her courage, with one commenter stating, “Keep going Tonto, Millions of Christians all over the world pray and support you. Every saint was once a sinner. God will give you Grace to stand.”
The actress’ confession comes amid a backdrop of past controversies, including a recent allegation from actress Doris Ogala, who claimed that Tonto Dikeh had previously been involved with native doctors.
Ogala had shared alleged audio recordings and accused Tonto of consulting spiritualists, which the actress’ recent testimony appears to address as part of her past struggles.
