Veteran Nigerian singer, Lawal O. Olumo, popularly known as Konga, has claimed that he was the one who introduced Wande Coal to former Mo’Hits Records owner, Don Jazzy.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast*, Konga explained that he took Wande Coal to meet Don Jazzy and D’Banj at a time when he was one of the biggest names in the industry.

“It was after I introduced Wande Coal. I carried Wande Coal to meet Don Jazzy and D’Banj. Baby Konga was everywhere then. I was the one popping,” he said.

According to him, he had the opportunity to sign Wande Coal himself, but chose not to because he lacked the financial capacity and did not want to be selfish.

“To be honest, I would have signed Wande Coal, but I didn’t have the capacity, and I didn’t want to be greedy. Mo’Hits already had a platform. I didn’t even have a car at that time. So, my idea was Don Jazzy, come and check out this artist. Let’s work with this artist together. Worst case, at least they would give me a percentage.”

Konga also insisted that he was telling the truth about the situation.

“As I dey talk to you, I dey fast, so anything you hear from me is honest bombs,” he added.

Konga was a popular Afro-pop singer in the 2000s, an era dominated by artists like 2Baba, D’Banj, and others. However, like many from that time, he has faded from the spotlight.

Recently, he made headlines for accusing Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy of copyright infringement. Konga alleged that Burna Boy copied his lines and rhythm in songs like *Sunba Mi* and *Update*.

In a TikTok video, Konga demanded compensation and requested a verse on the remix of his song *Kabakaba*.
