Controversial Nigerian singer Terry G has stirred social media after claiming he gave Nigerian artistes the courage to smoke cannabis in music videos.

The musician, known for his eccentric style and wild performances, made the comment on his official X handle on Sunday.

In his post, Terry G wrote, “No hard feelings, it’s all love, but no forget say if no be my sacrifice, none of your fav go get liver to smoke Igbo for screen.”

Terry G, whose real name is Gabriel Oche Amanyi, rose to fame in the late 2000s with his hit song “Free Madness” and quickly became known for his unpredictable stage presence and lyrics that often shocked listeners. He called himself the “Akpako Master” and built a brand around rebellion and street culture.

However his statement quickly drew attention and sparked mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.

While some hailed him as a bold entertainer who broke cultural barriers, many others questioned why he would take pride in encouraging something viewed by many as a negative influence.

A user, @Mautiin01, fired back, “Wetin Fela smoke? Wetin Seun dey smoke since? Go sleep.” Another, @DrJay2222, added, “Is Fela a joke?”

@FranciscoBrainy wrote, “Just imagine the kind of negative impact you’re proud of. Bragging about it on social media is even worse.

Celeb in the mud.” @official_amanda_o said, “We pray against dying young, yet turn around to mock women for aging. Now being in your thirties is suddenly too old? What exactly do they expect, for women to be stuck in their twenties forever?”

@Davidcj62939970 mocked the singer, saying, “Dis one don commot for prison, body don dey sweet am.” @Seyiomooje added, “So na you teach them to dey do bad thing with confidence…”

@lanakyle56 reacted, “Fela don first do am so where you give them liver?” while @King_K9 commented, “Shikenan? Like that’s all you want to be remembered by? What happened to being a voice for the youths?”

@CryptoDefiLord asked bluntly, “So that na achievement?” and @AbefeGodfather shared, “I remember that time you dey come Ota show with polybag of Igbo.” Terry G replied jokingly, “That’s a lie, na trailer I dey carry come.”

@Olanrewaju2414 didn’t hold back either, saying, “When did smoking Igbo on the screen become good thing? And you are not ashamed of your bad legacy? Let’s see how your children smoke it at home then I will believe it’s a good and godly way to go.”

Another comment by @religionisnotre read, “Egbon I been think say them carry you go church one time, you don escape?”
