I have not taken any salary in office – Gov Soludo

Published

During the celebration of his administration’s two-year anniversary, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State revealed some austere measures his government has undertaken, including not receiving any salary and his wife not having an official car.

Speaking at the International Convention Center in Awka, Soludo emphasized his commitment to cutting costs and prioritizing resources for the benefit of the people of Anambra State.

“I am not taking any salary from the Anambra State government. Even the First Lady of Anambra doesn’t have any official car; she still drives my personal vehicles,” Governor Soludo declared.

He further explained the rationale behind these austere measures, stating, “We decided for the first two years to demonstrate something, capacity to do more with less. So far, despite receiving about 25 per cent in real terms of what was received in the past, we have chosen deliberately not to borrow.”

Soludo reiterated his administration’s focus on prudent financial management, directing resources towards essential projects such as hospitals, roads, and schools in previously neglected areas of the state.

“If I ever borrow, the people will be shown the projects the loan was used for and how those projects would repay the loan,” Governor Soludo assured the people of Anambra.

The celebration of the two-year anniversary of Soludo’s administration was marked with a Pontifical Mass of Thanksgiving led by prominent Catholic bishops from the region, demonstrating the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and collaboration with religious leaders in the state.
