Meanwhile, a Twitter user @chii_onoh opined that her tweet is a representative of uninformed beliefs about feminism that have failed women in the past and continues to fail us today.

She also adviced that she uses her platform wisely to educate and avoid contributing to the very harmful rhetoric that can further marginalize women.
Some also lambasted her for not doing a proper research on the term “feminism.”

Your tweet is representative of uniformed beliefs about feminism that have failed women in the past and continues to fail us today. Use your platform wisely to educate, and avoid contributing to the very harmful rhetoric that can further marginalize women.

I haven’t asked her not to speak. Just to educate herself on what Feminism is and what it isn’t. But she is truly a good Nigeria politician who needs votes more than integrity. She knows where her bread is buttered. It takes courage to turn your back against the majority.
— Akuabata Chizoba Onoh (@chii_onoh) August 1, 2018
actually, she just defined Nigerian feminism

It is rather sad that it is a woman of your learning and exposure that reduces the subject of feminism to culinary affairs. There is more to feminism than who gets to cook.

In every movement, there are bad eggs that do not really understand what the ‘ism’ they subscribe to really stands for. You will find such people in atheism, agnosticism, humanism etc and the actions of such few those not warrant you to rub everyone with the same soap.

I’m sure you know christians who are adulterers, liars, thieves and cheats. And you still identify as a Christian. Because you know what Christianity is. Do the same for feminism.

Feminist: A person who believes in the economic, political and social equality of the sexes.
— Jagun ‘Setemi (@setemiii) August 1, 2018
But I wouldn’t go about making feminism look bad because these feminists (male and female) have stories. Stories that fuel their passions and drive their convictions. And I believe these stories ought to be respected because they are real.
— Jagun ‘Setemi (@setemiii) August 1, 2018
Real stories, real people and we respect people, we respect their choices because we don’t wear their shoes.
And so if my feminist neighbour decides not to cook, in as much as I do not agree, I respect that because we respect choices— Jagun ‘Setemi (@setemiii) August 1, 2018
Perhaps you need to educate yourself and then return on this mission, otherwise it’s an exercise in futility.

Even if you are genuinely ignorant of the concept, ability to empathise is an important leadership trait. How do you intend on uniting a nation of multi-ethnic and culturally diverse individuals if you lack it?
— Frank (@Givenupcaring_) August 1, 2018
This post shows you don’t know jack about feminism, to speak for or against it.

The ignorance is baffling… because there are bad eggs amongst lawyers does that mean the law profession is bad? The willful ignorance is so baffling.

So I was plastering your fliers all over my Whatsap because I’m proud of your guts..
This tweet reeks of ignorance. Difference in opinion will always occur and you have to be able to respectfully consider the validity and rationale of certain opinions, even without accepting it.— ♦Chidimma Ijeoma☀ (@chidimmaPearl) August 1, 2018
Okay you are beginning to say too much, it will do you good to stop tweeting at this point. I can tweet something like this and get away with it but not you who is seeking for public office. I supported your first tweet but please enough. God bless you!
— Sally (@is_salsu) August 1, 2018
I believe in equal rights for men and women, but I don’t call myself a feminist, because I don’t like labels, so I get your stance, but you need to stop right now. You sound like you’re not one bit diplomatic. You need to learn to address people before you aspire to lead
— Lois Truly (@loistruly) August 1, 2018
The problem with your tweets is that you’re trying to make the movement or belief in equal rights seem like BS, and we’ve had enough of that in leadership already. We don’t need another one of you.
— Lois Truly (@loistruly) August 1, 2018
Newsflash: We won’t vote you simply because you are a woman. And the patriarchal folks you’re trying to pander to won’t vote you either. So go and learn how to conduct yourself through your words. It’s all part of being any kind of leader.
