Foluke Adeboye, wife of renowned Nigerian cleric Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed that she threw away all her valuable gold jewelry into a lagoon after becoming a born-again Christian, a resurfaced throwback video now making the rounds online has shown .
Speaking about her experience in the interview, the pastor’s wife shared that she once loved fashion but gave it up when she joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God, which discouraged wearing earrings at the time .
“Every woman loves fashion. The moment we were born again then in RCCG, it was a taboo for you to have earrings. So everything, I dropped it in the lagoon,” she said .
According to her, she was deeply invested in fashion before becoming born again, owning several gold items, including jewelry she had already prepared for her child, who was under two years old at the time .
Rather than keep or sell them, she made the shocking decision to discard all her gold possessions into the lagoon .
She recalled how her mother’s friend questioned her decision, suggesting she could have given the jewelry to her mother to sell instead .
However, Foluke stated firmly that what was not good for her was not good for her mother either.
“Whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother,” she declared .
Foluke also recalled briefly switching to “copper” accessories as an alternative after discarding her gold, admitting she spent heavily on them at the time .
Despite the extreme sacrifice, she insisted she has no regrets about her decision.
“I don’t miss anything, not much. What would I say I miss? Not much, I have already sold myself,” she added .
