I did not threaten Obi’s life, says APC spokesman Felix Morka

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has strongly denied allegations that he threatened the life of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

In a statement, Morka said the claims by Obi were false and amounted to malicious character assassination. Obi had alleged through his verified social media account that Morka threatened him and his family following a New Year message.

“To be clear, I did not threaten Mr. Obi or his family. I have absolutely no reason to, and nothing I said during the referenced interview or elsewhere suggests any threat against him,” Morka clarified.

The allegation stems from Morka’s comments during a recent television interview, where he criticized Obi’s remarks on national issues. Responding to the specific accusation, Morka stated:

“My comments were in response to a question about ‘prophet of doom’ and ‘voodoo economics.’ I said, ‘Mr. Obi has crossed the line so many times, and I think at this point, whatever he gets, he needs to manage it.’ This was clearly in context and in no way a threat.”

Morka accused Obi of spreading misinformation and engaging in emotional blackmail to seek public sympathy. He described Obi’s allegation as “patently false and reprehensible.”

Morka also criticized Obi for allegedly leading a group of online supporters who, according to him, intimidate and issue threats to those who disagree with the former governor’s views.

“Obi’s online followers have attacked and bullied many Nigerians who hold opposing views. Despite this, Obi has never called them to order,” Morka alleged.

He accused Obi of flip-flopping on key policy issues and using misinformation to incite public anger against the APC-led government.

“For instance, Obi criticized the removal of fuel subsidies and the abolition of the dual exchange rate system, both of which he had promised to implement if elected. This inconsistency crosses the line of truth,” Morka added.

Morka warned that he would explore all available options to defend his reputation and urged Obi to retract his statements.

“Mr. Obi must immediately withdraw his false allegations and call his online supporters to order. By making these baseless claims, he has incited threats against me and my family. This is unacceptable,” Morka said.

He concluded by emphasizing the need for responsible leadership and fact-based opposition, noting that public figures like Obi have a duty to provide truthful information.

“As a public figure, Obi must prioritize truth over political manipulation. Nigerians deserve principled opposition leaders who engage in fact-based discourse rather than opportunistic politics,” Morka stated.

The APC spokesman reaffirmed his commitment to holding opposition figures accountable while defending the policies of his party and the current administration.
