Singer Timaya has revealed his reasons for avoiding romantic relationships with Nigerian men and women, highlighting his reservations about dating someone with a similar background.
In an interview with Beat 99.9 FM, the Bayelsa-born artist shared insights into his dating preferences, emphasizing the lack of excitement in relationships with individuals who share the same cultural background, upbringing, and environment.
Timaya likened such relationships to a toxic dynamic, drawing a vivid analogy between a police officer and a thief. He expressed concern that dating someone too similar could result in a lack of necessary spark in a romantic relationship.
“If I am a Nigerian girl, I will not date a Nigerian man. Myself right now, I can’t date a Nigerian girl,” he stated during the interview.
While Timaya clarified that he doesn’t have issues with Nigerian men, he believes that variety in backgrounds adds spice to relationships, making them more interesting.
In another revelation during the interview, Timaya shared his personal experience with drug addiction, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
He acknowledged his past involvement with drugs and explained that it started during the lockdown when he observed young men who seemed content and happy despite having less material wealth.
As a leader with substantial wealth, Timaya inquired about the source of their happiness, and they confessed to using Molly, a type of drug.
