Afrobeats star Wizkid has responded bluntly to Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti in an escalating feud over comparisons to the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The clash began after Seun Kuti publicly criticized Wizkid’s fanbase, Wizkid FC, accusing them of disrespecting his father’s legacy by comparing Wizkid’s global success to Fela’s cultural and political impact. In an Instagram Live session, Seun rejected a fan’s request to drop his nickname “Big Bird,” stating, “Wizkid stole my name. Tell your fave to be original.”
He also challenged the fanbase to channel their energy into positive projects instead of online disputes, saying, “They claim they’re over one million, so let them contribute ₦1,000 each for their fave. That’s ₦1 billion to build a school in Surulere on Wizkid’s behalf.”
Seun revealed he recently received about $120,000 due to his father’s legacy, emphasizing that Fela’s influence extends beyond music.
After days of silence, Wizkid reacted on his Instagram story. First, he shared a video of a woman criticizing Seun’s persistent attacks. He then posted a direct message: “I Big pass your papa. Wetin you won do? Fool at 40. I’m Big Wiz everyday.”
The response ignited further debate on social media, with fans divided over the remark’s appropriateness and the broader discussion about legacy and respect.
Seun had earlier warned Wizkid FC to “Keep Fela’s name out of your mouths,” stressing that his criticism targeted fan culture, not Wizkid personally.
