Nigerian comedian and actress Anita Afoke Asuoha, known as RealWarriPikin, has revealed that she tried to commit suicide in 2018.
She shared her story on her Instagram page on Tuesday to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, which is observed on September 10.
Asuoha explained that she and her husband, Ikechukwu Asuoha, followed the advice of a motivational speaker to explore various ways to make money.
However, their efforts led them into a debt of N22 million, pushing her to the brink of taking her own life.
Sharing her experience in Pidgin English, she said, “I tried suicide so you don’t have to. In 2018, June 6, 3 pm to be precise, I attempted suicide. I gave up on life because the burden was too much. Life just dey hit me left, right, and center, life dey turn me round like barber chair. And I felt like the only way to escape is to end the pain.”
She continued, “2017, one motivational speaker jump like monkey come tell me and husband say you have been there for too long. Na so we chuck our hand for different things, we come land for N22 million debt.”
Asuoha added that if not for the intervention of her neighbor, she might have succeeded in taking her life.
Earlier in June 2024, Asuoha shared her journey through a weight loss surgery she had a year ago, citing depression and health risks as her reasons.
