Popular singer, David Adeleke, known as Davido, has responded to a tribal remark made against him on social media by declaring that he is proudly Igbo by blood.

The comment came from an X user, Yakbel, who advised Davido to distance himself from the Igbo community. The post read:
“Davido just dey carry Ibo full body, until when dem betray am before e rest. Yoruba boy dey frolick with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them. You can never satisfy Ibos ooo. IBOs are not people you surround yourself with as a Yoruba man.”

Davido quickly replied on Tuesday, saying, “Lol, I AM IGBO by blood.”

His response has received praise from many Nigerians who commended the artist for promoting unity and standing against tribalism. Several users on social media hailed Davido for proudly embracing his roots and refusing to let hate divide people.

One user, PascalUche, commented, “Respect to Davido for this reply. We need more voices like this to unite Nigeria.”
Another person, NkiruOkeke, wrote, “Tribalism has no place in 2025. Thank you Davido for speaking up.”

This is not the first time Davido has shown love for Igbo culture. On Monday, he hosted highlife music legend, Elder Bright Chimezie, in Lagos. The singer had earlier shared that Chimezie’s style inspired his verse on the song With You.

Davido, who is Yoruba by name and heritage from his father’s side, has often shown deep respect for cultures across Nigeria.

Many fans see his latest reply as a bold move to promote peace and unity across the country.
