Popular singer, David Adedeji Adeleke, also known as Davido, has said that although he was friends with convicted fraudster Ramon Abbas, also called Hushpuppi, he never knew what Hushpuppi did for a living.

Davido made this statement during a recent interview, where he also said his prayers go out to Hushpuppi, who is currently serving an 11-year jail term in the United States for internet fraud.

“My prayers go out to him, he’s my friend. I just see him around; I never really knew what he was doing. But he lived a good life,” Davido said.

The singer added that some people are okay with enjoying a flashy life for a short time, even if they end up suffering later.

Before his arrest in 2020, Hushpuppi was famous on Instagram for showing off expensive cars, designer clothes, and a luxurious lifestyle. He was later arrested in Dubai, extradited to the U.S., and found guilty of fraud involving cybercrime and business email scams.

Davido had been seen with Hushpuppi at public events and parties in the past, making many Nigerians question their relationship.

The video of Davido’s recent comment has stirred reactions on social media.

A user, temitoayoo, said, “I don’t like that he openly supports a fraudster. His reasons well known to him sha.”

Another user, GrokProfit, recalled an old fight between the two, writing, “Back in 2017, Hushpuppi threw shade at Davido after dropping 11 million at Quilox. He called him out, challenging him to pick a date so they could both ball out and see who the real big spender was.”

Badboyyank commented, “Davido dey lie! E say e no know wetin Hushpuppi dey do 😭.”

OC_Idan added, “Sometimes management need to advise this brother because why tf is he saying ‘he was my friend’? Bro, it’s bad for business. Even Hush no send you that message.”

Other celebrities who once hung out with Hushpuppi have since distanced themselves from him. Media personality Daddy Freeze once said he had no idea Hushpuppi was deeply involved in cybercrime.

“I might have suspected that his money wasn’t legit, but as Davido said in one of his songs, ‘Dey for who dey for you,’” Daddy Freeze stated.
