Fast-rising Nigerian skit maker and content creator Sydney Iwundu, popularly known as Syd Iwundu, has opened up about how prominent comedy stars like Sydney Talker and Broda Shaggi played key roles in his rise to fame.
In an interview, Syd shared how the encouragement and inspiration from established creators helped shape his path when he began content creation in 2019.
“Some of the people who inspired me to become a content maker when I first started in 2019 are Sydney Talker, De General, Gentuu, and Saint Bellington. They encouraged me because we all attended the same university (University of Benin, Edo State),” he said.
He also credited other well-known comedy figures for fueling his passion, stating, “In addition, Crazeclown, Broda Shaggi, Josh2funny, and Lasisi Elenu inspired me. Blogger Tunde Ednut also promoted me for free.”
Syd particularly praised Sydney Talker’s creative influence and consistency over the years. “I love the way he shoots his content and he has been able to grow his followers with his level of creativity over the years,” he said.
Reflecting on Sydney Talker’s longevity in the industry, he added, “Sydney Talker started some years ago and his name is still on the lips of his fans. That’s a big deal for a content creator and I want my fans to see me in that light.”
Despite his growing success and over a million followers on Instagram, Syd highlighted some of the challenges he faces behind the scenes. “Getting casts to shoot some specific skits is difficult. It’s not always easy to find the right person to play certain roles,” he said.
Syd also spoke candidly about how his journey began as a passion project. “I began off as a hobby and hoped to make money from it, but in the end, I didn’t take it seriously enough to make money. I was only interested about making others happy. I didn’t care about the money anymore because I enjoyed doing it whether I was paid or not,” he explained.
The skit maker’s story is one of growth, mentorship, and determination, showing how support from established talents like Sydney Talker and Broda Shaggi helped him carve a place in Nigeria’s digital comedy scene.
