Popular special effects artist, Onilogbo Hakeem, widely known as Hakeem Effect, has revealed that his journey into the world of visual effects began through a series of dreams.
Recognised as one of Nollywood’s foremost special effects creators, Hakeem disclosed that his skills developed over time following repeated experiences he encountered while dreaming.
He shared this revelation during a recent appearance on an online podcast.
Recounting the experience, he said, “I had a dream where someone held my shoulder and asked me to follow him.
I looked up to see who it was, but couldn’t see the face because he was tall and white. That was how the journey started.”
He further explained how the mysterious figure questioned him about his abilities and guided his path.
“He asked me, what talent do you have? and I said I could draw, and then he said, if you can follow me, I will announce you to the world. Along the line, I joined the chorister and then a drama group where I was appointed to provide special effects even though I didn’t know what it means then. While I was thinking of how to go about it, I had the dream again where the said man told me how I would achieve the special effect and it was exactly as he told me in the dream,” he said.
Hakeem also credited late Nollywood actor and producer Murphy Afolabi for giving him the nickname “Hakeem Effect,” a name that has since become widely associated with his craft.
