How I spent 10 years in prison for doing nothing – UI graduate
A graduate of the University of Ibadan, Martin Eze John, has narrated how he spent 10 years in prison without committing any offense
He narrated that the police arrested him on his way home after watching a Chelsea versus Barcelona match in 2013. The police forced him into their vehicle and took him to the station and wasn’t allowed to write down a statement.
He revealed that ASP Diko, the boss of the police station that arrested him, was the one who ordered him to be charged to court without any offense.
“The third day I will never forget this woman called ASP Diko. She just came and said bring him out. His case is settled already. Let’s take him”. He recalled
He also recalled that for seven years while in incarceration, he was taken to court under the cover of another person’s name
On how he regained his freedom, Martin narrated how some members of the Justice, Development, and Peace Commission visited the prison and took his case up.
The JDPC traced his file back to the University of Ibadan to confirm his real name, which was used to present his case before the court found him not guilty, and was freed ten years after incarceration.
Martin shared his ordeal at the Living Faith Church in Ibadan, where he gave a testimony of how he gained his freedom after 10 years of incarceration without committing any offense.
He endured the heartbreaking loss of his mother and wife during his unjust incarceration.
