Sharon Ademefun, the elder sister of Afrobeats superstar Davido and Chief Financial Officer of Davido Music Worldwide, has opened up about her role in overseeing her brother’s finances and her efforts to discourage his continued spending on expensive cars and jewellery.
Speaking on The Morayo Show, hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, Ademefun disclosed that she meets with the singer every week to review his finances and ensure he remains aware of how his money is being spent.
“Me and Davido sit and have a finance meeting every week because I think it is important for him to know how his money is being spent. I will now say, ‘David, please, no more cars,’” she said.
However, Ademefun admitted that her warnings do not always prevent the singer from making new luxury purchases.
“No more jewellery. 24 hours later, you know how they normally say it, ‘2 to 3 business days’, I’ll just see on the blogs. This latest car,” she added.
According to Ademefun, her involvement in Davido’s professional affairs dates back to the early stages of his career. She explained that her current position developed naturally from her earlier experience as part of his management team.
She also acknowledged that working with her brother has sometimes led to disagreements, particularly because she is prepared to confront him on issues that others may be reluctant to raise.
“The problem is that David and I were always fighting. If other people can’t tell him, me I’ll tell him. And so, I think the truth of the matter is it was a natural progression.
“I think that we both needed to go off and do our own things. And now I can take what I’ve learned in business and then help him put structure into his business. So, it’s just more official.”
Asked whether she was familiar with the full extent of Davido’s wealth, Ademefun declined to provide details, citing a confidentiality agreement.
“I’ve signed a non-disclosure agreement! I can’t confirm or deny!” she said.
Ademefun further explained that Davido has a management team responsible for handling his everyday logistics. However, she said she occasionally steps in when attempts to reduce expenses result in arrangements that could affect the singer’s comfort, especially during travel.
“You know, if you book him on an airline that doesn’t have a good first class, he can get to the airport and say, ‘Yeah, if you want me to go to an event, buy first class’… I’ve bought a ticket at the airport many times.
“Because maybe they tried to cut corners or cut costs somewhere. So, there’s lots of funny things.”
Beyond her work with Davido, Ademefun also discussed her fashion business, Body Politics, which she said was created after she became frustrated by the limited clothing options available to women with different body shapes.
The clothing brand caters to a broad range of sizes, from XXS to 5XL, as Ademefun seeks to provide more options for customers with varying body types.
She said she is deliberately taking a measured approach to growing the business rather than expanding at an unsustainable pace. For now, her focus remains on strengthening the brand’s existing operations while gradually increasing its physical presence and availability.
“I think the next big thing is to do what I’m doing better. I don’t want to make the mistake of over-expanding too quickly, but I think you’re going to see more of me, more pop-ups, and more availability,” she said.
