Housekeeper jailed 14 years for robbing employer

A housekeeper, Emmanuel Robson, has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by Igbosere Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute-Metta for stealing various sums of money from his employer, Odion Bello.

Robson was arraigned before the court on 15 counts of burglary and theft. He pleaded guilty to all counts.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that Robson committed the offences between July 4 and 8, 2023, at about 10am, at Bello’s residence at No 6, Taiwo Osipitan Close, Parkview Estate-Ikoyi, Lagos.

Osuji said that Robson constructively broke and entered Bello’s home and stole various items, including a Toshiba Laptop valued at N800,000, €2,000, £1,000, $1000, four gold wristwatches valued at N4m, 800 Qatar Riyal, a Puma wristwatch valued at N1.2m, a Diamond ring and Necklaces valued at N100m, another necklace valued N5m, a music box valued at N500,000, a credit card, and a black platinum visa credit card from the United Kingdom.

The prosecutor said all the stolen property belonged to Bello.

While passing the judgment, Magistrate Oluwatosin Erinle convicted Robson and sentenced him to six months imprisonment for count one, two years for count two, six months for count three, and one year for counts four to six. 

Erinle also ordered that the jail term should run consecutively.
