Hoodlums have set the office of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area on fire.

Despite the attack, the electoral materials were untouched, and the local government elections continued as planned.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, confirmed the incident on Saturday. She explained that although the building was partially damaged, the situation did not disrupt the election.

“Some hoodlums partially set the AKISIEC office in Ibiono Ibom ablaze, but the election materials remained intact. The election is also ongoing,” said ASP John.

She further assured the public that security had been tightened around AKISIEC offices and other strategic locations across the state to prevent any further disturbances. “Security has been beefed up at all AKISIEC offices and strategic locations across the state to prevent further sabotage,” she added.
