Hoodlums kill mother, six children in Kano attack

Seven people, including a 35-year-old woman and her six children, have been killed in a violent attack at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano State.

The victims were identified as Fatima Abubakar and her children. They were reportedly attacked in their home by unknown hoodlums who broke into the house and inflicted fatal injuries with dangerous weapons.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano State, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call at about 12.10 pm on January 17, 2026, over an attack on the household of one Haruna Bashir.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, immediately deployed officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani.

“The victims were evacuated to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel,” Kiyawa said.

He added, “The bodies were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.”

According to the police spokesperson, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, has been directed to take over the case and ensure a thorough investigation.

Kiyawa said efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.

The police command expressed condolences to the bereaved family, residents of Dorayi Chiranchi and the people of Kano State, assuring that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The killings have thrown the Dorayi Chiranchi community into mourning, with residents calling for improved security and swift action to prevent a recurrence.
