Veteran Hollywood actor, Liam Neeson says he would be physically present at a New York City movie theatre on Friday night to welcome moviegoers for his new film.

This comes as cinemas in New York reopen for the first time this weekend after nearly a year of being closed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Neeson’s new movie ‘The Marksman’ would play at the AMC Lincoln Square theatre and he would be at an evening showing on Friday to greet moviegoers before the film begins.

“This is one for the diary,” Neeson told The Hollywood Reporter during an interview this week. “It will be nice to welcome people. I think going to the cinema is a bit of a sacred experience. I’ve felt that way since I was a kid.”

“The reopening of New York is a strong symbolic gesture to the theatre-going audience that it is okay to put your toe in the water,” said Tom Ortenberg, chief of Open Road/Briarcliff, the film’s U.S. distributor.

The Marksman has been playing in theatres since January 15 and it has grossed over $16 million worldwide so far, though it still hasn’t played in many key markets like New York City.

Meanwhile, Netflix US beat competitors to win rights to Liam Neeson’s latest movie, The Ice Road, in what is a record domestic-only deal worth $18 million, according to Deadline.

Neeson also has two other recent projects which dropped in the past year; Honest Thief and the comedy-drama Made in Italy, starring his son, Micheál Richardson.
