Two male pedestrians lost their lives in a hit-and-run incident near Kara Bus Stop on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State on Thursday, December 26.
The tragic event occurred around 5 p.m., according to the Ogun State Police Command.
The victims were reportedly attempting to cross the expressway when they were struck by unidentified vehicles traveling at high speed.
Speaking about the incident, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, explained that the victims were rushed to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, but were pronounced dead on arrival.
“The accident happened along the Isheri-Olofin corridor when the victims tried to cross the expressway without properly assessing the flow of oncoming vehicles,” Odutola said.
“Unfortunately, they were hit by speeding vehicles that immediately fled the scene.”
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to identify the victims and track down the fleeing drivers.
In a related development, it was reported that another fatal accident occurred on the same day at approximately 4:14 p.m. along the Sapaade stretch of the expressway.
The crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus with the number plate LAGOS LSR 585 YH, resulting in the deaths of two passengers and injuries to 16 others.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with emergency responders working tirelessly to assist the victims.
The Ogun State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps have once again cautioned pedestrians and motorists about the dangers of careless road use.
Authorities urge pedestrians to use designated crossing points and advise drivers to maintain safe speeds, especially during the holiday season when traffic volumes increase.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
