Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad continue to paint themselves in a bad light after online reports claimed SARS officials assaulted a Lagos resident for allegedly refusing a ‘phone check’.
The incident reportedly occurred in Ogba, a suburb of Lagos State.
According to reports, the victim had come out of a restaurant at Haruna Bus Stop when he was accosted by FSARS operatives. The officers demanded a phone check, which the young man refused.
However, angered by his refusal and demand that his rights be respected, the operatives descend on him and beat him to stupor.
A viral video showed the SARS men beating the young man. Online reports claimed the young man died from injuries sustained when he was brutalised.
“They demanded to see his phone, which he refused. The next thing was them harassing him and tied him all up.
“I heard he died though, but not sure about it. Another source said he’s in the hospital as those in the area didn’t allow SARS officials drop him when they noticed he was convulsing, so they took him to a private hospital.”
