He’s an upgrade from Dalung, Nigerians react as Sunday Dare becomes new sports minister

Sunday Dare

The appointment of Sunday Dare as the Minister for Youth and Sports by President Muhammadu Buhari has sparked reactions from Nigerians on social media.

WuzupNigeria reports that Buhari swore-in the 43 ministers at the Aso Villa in Abuja, on Wednesday and thereafter assigned portfolios to them.

Dare, 53, who until his nomination as a Minister was the executive commissioner in charge of stakeholders management at the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), is a veteran journalist and former media aide to former Governor of Lagos State Bola Tinubu.

He is from Ogbomosho in Oyo State.

His appointment as the new helmsman of the Sports and Youth ministry has sparked mixed reactions from sports-loving Nigerians on social media who are of the opinion that he would perform better than his predecessor Solomon Dalung who was always in the eye of controversy during his time as the Sports Minister.

While some praised his deployment to the ministry, others were of the opinion that as a veteran journalist who also displayed good knowledge of the communication industry during his ministerial screening, he should have been deployed to the Ministry of Communication to assist Isa Patami, a former Director-General and CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) who is also an expert in the communication industry.

Some social media user also believed Dare is in the wrong place because, according to them, he has held no prior administrative position in Sports.
